'Homeland' wins big at Emmys

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- "Homeland," "Hatfields & McCoys" and "Game Change" were the big winners in the drama categories at the Emmy Awards presentation in Los Angeles Sunday night.

"Homeland" stars Damian Lewis and Claire Danes won matching lead actor and actress in a drama series statuettes. The CIA thriller also earned the accolades for best drama series and writing for a drama series.

Kevin Costner won the award for lead actor in a miniseries or movie for his work in the 19th century Appalachian family-feud saga "Hatfields & McCoys," while his co-star Tom Berenger took home the trophy for supporting actor in a miniseries or movie.

"Game Change" earned the awards for best miniseries or movie, as well as writing and directing for a miniseries or movie. The political picture's star Julianne Moore won the best actress in a miniseries or movie for her portrayal of 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.

Aaron Paul was presented with the supporting actor in a drama series Emmy for "Breaking Bad" and Maggie Smith won the best supporting actress in a drama series award for "Downton Abbey." Jessica Lange picked up the supporting actress in a miniseries or movie trophy for "American Horror Story."

"The Amazing Race" won for best reality series and "Dancing with the Stars" emcee Tom Bergeron the Emmy for best reality series host.
