HONOLULU, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- U.S. television actress Tichina Arnold has confirmed she married college basketball coach Rico Hines earlier this month in Hawaii.

Arnold is best known for her roles on the sitcoms "Martin," "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Happily Divorced."

Hines is the men's basketball assistant coach at St. John's University.

People.com said Monday the couple announced their engagement in March and wed Aug. 18 at the Oasis Oceanfront Estate in Honolulu in front of about 70 guests.

"We decided to forgo lots of the traditional elements such as a wedding cake and a white dress for me," Arnold told Essence.com.

"We both wanted a wedding that was reflective of our personalities and our normal everyday lifestyles -- and that is good friends, good food and good fun," she said. "The best part of the day was when Rico pledged his commitment to [my 8-year-old daughter] Alijah. ... I know that he will always be there for her as she grows and matures into a creative and talented woman."
