NEW YORK, April 4 (UPI) -- Ryan Seacrest announced on Wednesday's edition of "Today" he is to cover the London Olympics this summer for NBC.

Interviewer Matt Lauer jokingly asked Seacrest during his appearance on the program about rumors claiming he is poised to replace him as "Today" anchor.

"Oh, they didn't tell you?'' Seacrest quipped.

"I see you doing this for as long as you want to so maybe the question is, how long will you be on the 'Today' show?" he said. "The plan is for me to join the NBC family and continue to have a role with the E! Network."

Seacrest works on several E! programs and is the longtime host of "American Idol."
