NEW YORK, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Former "Saturday Night Live" star Eddie Murphy is planning to make his first appearance on the sketch comedy show since 1984, the New York Post said.

Murphy left the series to focus on his film career and has not returned or participated in any "SNL" reunions or specials. Rumor has it he was annoyed when his career failures were mocked on "SNL" throughout the years, the newspaper said.

Although the Post said Murphy may drop by Saturday night's taping when his "Tower Heist" co-star Ben Stiller serves as guest host, Murphy's publicist is denying the story.

"There are no plans for Eddie to appear on 'SNL' at this time, but perhaps in the future he will make a return," a representative for Murphy told the newspaper.

"He hasn't been on 'SNL' for over 25 years, it would be astonishing if he did it," a source close to the show told the Post.
