NEW YORK, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- U.S. cable network TLC says it has canceled its reality show "Kate Plus 8."

"TLC has decided not to renew another season of 'Kate Plus 8.' By the end of this season, 'Kate Plus 8' will have hit the 150-episode mark (including 'Jon & Kate Plus 8'), an exceptional milestone," the network said in a statement issued to UsMagazine.com. "TLC hopes to check in with Kate and the family periodically with specials in the future."

"TLC canceled it. I'm sorry," Gosselin said via Twitter after the news broke.

"We've had a great run! Six years of whirlwind fun-filled adventures," her online message said. "Thanks to TLC and our many, many supportive and diehard fans! While it is very sad for me and the kids (there were many tears at the breakfast table this morning!), we are looking forward with great anticipation to our bright future! As is very typical for me, I am choosing to see the positive in this situation and I am excited to consider the many more invigorating opportunities that may come my way."

Gosselin starred with her young twins, sextuplets and former husband Jon on "Jon & Kate Plus 8," which ran for five seasons until 2009 when the couple split up. It was then renamed "Kate Plus 8" and focused on Kate as a single mother of eight.

Jon's dating and Kate's attempts to keep her TV career going kept them in the headlines through much of 2010, but they have kept lower profiles for the past year.
