'Ways to Die' graphic novel on its way

NEW YORK, June 13 (UPI) -- A graphic novel based on the U.S. docu-series "1000 Ways to Die" is to be published this fall, Spike TV said Monday.

The project was announced by Sharon Levy, executive vice president of original series for Spike TV; Thom Beers, chief executive officer and executive producer of original productions; and Ralph Tedesco, editor-in-chief of Zenescope Entertainment.

This marks the first graphic novel adaptation of a Spike TV show. It will be produced by Tedesco and Zenescope Entertainment, an independent comic book and graphic novel publisher.

"1000 Ways To Die," created by Beers, is now in its third season.

The 200-page graphic novel based on the show will be available in comic stores throughout the United States this fall to coincide with new original episodes.

"We're definitely very excited to be working with the crew over at Spike. Our brands fit extremely well together and '1000 Ways to Die' is a phenomenal property to bring into the world of graphic novels," Tedesco said in a statement.

"'1000 Ways to Die' showcases some of the most outrageous true stories about those who succumbed to the grim reaper in the most unorthodox of styles," a synopsis of the show said. "Each case takes viewers through a fast-paced full re-enactment interlaced with dramatic witness testimonials, fun historical tidbits, scientific expert explanations and vibrant CGI [computer-generated imagery] effects reminiscent of classic comic books."
