Murphy to receive Comedy Icon Award

NEW YORK, March 21 (UPI) -- Eddie Murphy is to be honored with the inaugural Comedy Icon Award at The Comedy Awards show in New York, organizers said Monday.

The ceremony is to be taped at Manhattan's Hammerstein Ballroom. It is to premiere April 10 simultaneously across MTV Networks' Comedy Central, Spike TV, TV Land, VH1 and Nick At Nite.

"Eddie Murphy's impact in the world of comedy is immeasurable," Casey Patterson -- executive producer and executive vice president of event production for MTV Networks Entertainment Group -- said in a statement. "From the characters he created on 'Saturday Night Live,' to his groundbreaking stand-up performances and unforgettable film roles, Murphy changed the game forever and we're honored that he will be joining us for the first-ever Comedy Awards."

Presenters and attendees confirmed for The Comedy Awards include Tina Fey, Jon Stewart, Jimmy Fallon, Tracy Morgan, Matt Stone, Trey Parker, Ty Burrell, Louis C.K., Stephen Colbert, Rob Corddry, Bill Hader, Chloe Moretz, Craig Robinson, Andy Samberg and Kristen Wiig.

The Roots will serve as the show's house band, Comedy Central said.
