'True Grit' wins CAS award

HOLLYWOOD, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- The sound-mixing team for the movie "True Grit" won the top features award from the Cinema Audio Society in Hollywood, beating "Black Swan" and three others.

The other contenders at Saturday's CAS Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing event at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles for the CAS award were "The Social Network," "Shutter Island" and "Inception," The Hollywood Reporter said.

"True Grit" re-recording mixers Skip Lievsay, Craig Berkey and Greg Orloff received the award, the Reporter said.

"True Grit," "The Social Network" and "Inception" also have been nominated for the Oscar in the sound-mixing category, the Reporter said.

The CAS award in the television movies and miniseries category went to "Temple Grandin," the Reporter said.

"Boardwalk Empire" won in the TV series category, and "Deadliest Catch" won the prize for non-fiction, variety or music TV (series or specials).

Tom Hooper, "The King's Speech" director, and mixer Scott Millan presented the Filmmaker Award to Taylor Hackford, the Director's Guild of America president and director.

Haskell Wexler, the academy award winning cinematographer, presented, along with sound mixer Tomlinson Holman, the CAS Career Achievement Award to his son, Jeffrey S. Wexler.

"Thirty Days of Night" won an award for DVD original programming.

A technical achievement award went to Schoeps Super CMIT 2U.
