LOS ANGELES, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Actress Justine Bateman has signed on for a guest role in an upcoming episode of the U.S. medical drama series "Private Practice," ABC said.

Bateman is best known for her work on TV's "Family Ties" and "Men in Trees," and in the movie "Satisfaction." She is the sister of actor Jason Bateman.

"Violet and Cooper make amendments to their friendship in order to please their significant others; Pete and Cooper get in an argument involving marijuana use by a patient (Bateman); Addison is conflicted about going public with her new romance, and Sheldon's decision to deny approval for a patient's sex change backfires," the network said in a synopsis of the show's Sept. 30 episode.

"Private Practice" stars Kate Walsh as Dr. Addison Forbes Montgomery, Tim Daly as Dr. Pete Wilder, Paul Adelstein as Dr. Cooper Freedman, Brian Benben as Dr. Sheldon Wallace and Amy Brenneman as Dr. Violet Turner.
