Actress Rue McClanahan dead at 76

LOS ANGELES, June 3 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Rue McClanahan has died of a massive stroke, her manager said Thursday. She was 76.

The Oklahoma native is best known for her work on the television comedies "Maude," "Mama's Family" and "The Golden Girls."

"She passed away at 1 a.m. this morning," McClanahan's manager, Barbara Lawrence, told People.com. "She had a massive stroke. ... (She) had her family with her. She went in peace."

The actress had suffered a minor stroke earlier this year while recovering from bypass surgery, the Web site said.

Betty White, 88, is the last surviving cast member of the classic senior-themed, 1980s sitcom "The Golden Girls." Beatrice Arthur died in 2009 and Estelle Getty the year before.

McClanahan is survived by her sixth husband, actor Morrow Wilson, and Mark Bish, her son from a previous marriage, People.com said.
