LOS ANGELES, June 1 (UPI) -- Heidi Montag's publicist has confirmed rumors that the U.S. reality television personality has separated from her husband, Spencer Pratt.

Montag, 23, and Pratt, 26, starred together on TV's "The Hills" for several seasons. They married in April 2009.

"Heidi is going through a difficult time and hopes people respect her privacy," Montag's representative told UsMagazine.com, emphasizing the couple has not filed for divorce.

"Heidi loves Spencer but she had lost contact with her friends and family," one friend told the Web site, echoing reports that said Pratt has been isolating Montag from her loved ones. "She started to realize what she was missing."
