LOS ANGELES, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- U.S. singer Keyshia Cole says she is engaged to Cleveland Cavaliers player Daniel Gibson and is pregnant with the couple's first child.

Cole, 28, confirmed in a statement she and Gibson are planning their wedding and expecting a new addition to their family, all while Cole is attempting to distance herself from her own family, People.com reported Friday.

"Now that I am becoming a mom, my passion for having a loving and peaceful home for my child is my No. 1 priority. It's very important to both Daniel and I ... the stress that my family is giving me with their constant false reports is not healthy and it's not what I need at this time in my life," Cole wrote in her statement.

Cole, who is also the star of the Black Entertainment Television reality series "Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is," is expected to give birth in the spring.

A Cole representative said the singer and Gibson, 23, had not set a date for their wedding.
