ASPEN, Colo., Dec. 27 (UPI) -- Actor Charlie Sheen and his wife, Brooke Mueller, will take part in counseling in the wake of Sheen's arrest in Aspen, Colo., a source close to Mueller says.

The source, whose identity was not released, said Friday's incident in Aspen that resulted in Sheen being booked into jail on domestic violence charges was the result of alcohol use by both individuals, People.com reported Saturday.

"They were fighting at a dinner in a friend's house and it continued until the next morning," the source said. "Both of them were drinking and neither was supposed to be. They both have histories of alcohol abuse and have made every effort to stop. But things got out of hand."

"Both he and Brooke will undergo counseling and Charlie will get anger management counseling," the source added.

The source said Sheen, 44, returned to Los Angeles after being freed on $8,500 bond, while Mueller is staying in Aspen for the time being.

"After this unfortunate event, they need to be apart for awhile," the source told People magazine.
