LOS ANGELES, Nov. 18 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Jason Lee has landed the lead role in the pilot for "Delta Blues," a new offbeat drama executive produced by George Clooney, TNT said.

Grant Heslov and writer Liz M. Garcia will also serve as executive producers on the pilot.

Lee, who previously starred for four seasons in the television comedy "My Name is Earl," has signed on to play Dwight Hendricks, a Memphis police officer who lives with his mother and moonlights as an Elvis impersonator, in "Delta Blues."

"Jason Lee is the ideal choice to bring the compelling, off-kilter Dwight Hendricks to life," Michael Wright -- executive vice president and head of programming for TNT, TBS and Turner Classic Movies -- said in a statement. "With extraordinary talent in front of and behind the camera, along with an outstanding script, 'Delta Blues' is shaping up to be a hugely entertaining show and a great fit with our lineup of original dramas."
