EL CALLAO, Peru, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Google is celebrating what would have been the 94th birthday of "Peruvian songbird" Yma Sumac in their latest Doodle. Released Tuesday, users who visit Google's homepage will notice colorful artwork of Sumac who is seen raising her hands as musical notes dance around the familiar Google logo.

According to Google, Sumac was born Zoila Augusta Emperatriz Chávarri del Castillo in 1922 in the mountains of Peru where she would sing to rocks until her big break as a teenager when she was invited onto an Argentine radio station.
It was then that Sumac became a singing sensation as her "astonishing five-octave vocal range captivated audiences in South America and beyond."
Sumac arrived in the United States in 1946 and was signed to Capitol Records. Notable stateside performances include stage appearances at Carnegie Hall, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Royal Albert Hall among others.
The singer often left quite the impression as well, wearing exotic and flamboyant costumes along with ornate jewelry that many compared to pieces worn by Incan royalty.
Sumac died in 2008 while in Los Angeles, but as Google notes, her "captivating voice will always be remembered."
