WASHINGTON, June 21 (UPI) -- Google has welcomed the arrival of summer solstice alongside the rare appearance of a strawberry moon with a new Doodle.

The Doodle features a squirrel hopping along a family of anthropomorphized rocks at night during a full moon to reach a strawberry that he suddenly drops once the rock comes to life.

The animation represents that for the first time since 1967, both the solstice -- which signals the official start of summer and the strawberry moon, a nickname for June's full moon -- occurred on the same day. This rare pairing will not happen again until 2062.

The strawberry moon, according to The Old Farmer's Almanac, was not named for the moon appearing red, but to signify the height of the season strawberries are harvested. The Farmer's Almanac and the Slooh network hosted a live stream viewing of the full moon in celebration of the rare astronomical occurrence.
