Demi Lovato taps Robert Rodriguez to direct new music video

Actress Michelle Rodriguez will co-star alongside the singer.

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Demi Lovato has tapped Robert Rodriguez to direct her forthcoming "Confident" music video.

The 23-year-old singer revealed the news by sharing a photo of herself with the 47-year-old director and actress Michelle Rodriguez on set Thursday. Lovato alluded to the action-packed video on Twitter, saying she jumped out of a bus while filming fight scenes Wednesday.

"So honored to be working with these two badasses: the legendary director @RODRIGUEZ and the legendary actress @MRODOFFICIAL!" she captioned the snapshot on Instagram. Michelle Rodriguez posted the same picture, writing, "Demi you are a powerhouse glad you are using your gift to promote Girl Power Respect."

"I was so impressed by Demi's fearless performance as a guest star on my TV series From Dusk Till Dawn that I jumped at the chance to direct her video," Robert Rodriguez said in a statement. "I basically treated this like we were shooting a high-octane action film, because she has the presence and star power to pull it off. She's incredible.

"Confident" is the the second single to debut from Lovato's forthcoming album of the same name. The record is scheduled for release Oct. 16, and will also include the song "Cool for the Summer." The singer last debuted Demi in May 2013.

Lovato will appear alongside boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama on From Dusk Till Dawn season 2 in October. Robert Rodriguez is known for the Mexico Trilogy, Sin City and its sequel, and previously directed Michelle Rodriguez in Planet Terror, Machete and Machete Kills.
