BURBANK, Calif., Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Kanye West sampled a track from his forthcoming seventh album Wednesday during an appearance at the iHeartMedia Music Summit at Burbank, California's iHeartRadio Theatre.
Sources told Billboard the 37-year-old rapper stood in front of the audience with a laptop and a mic and spoke about the influence behind his old music and his "responsibility to innovate" for about 45 minutes.
West allegedly touched on the sound beats that were so prevalent in his first album and Daft Punk's influence tracks like "Stronger" and his 808s & Heartbreak album.
The raper also talked about some of the rare topics he brought to the radio with songs like "Jesus Walks" and "Through the Wire" and cleared the air about a comment he made in 2013 about not wanting his music to be played on the radio.
"¡I was joking! Of course I want to be on the radio," West said with a laugh adding he wished his latest effort "Black Skinhead" would have been embraced more by radio stations. He then sang some of it a cappella.
After discussing his new single with Paul McCartney, "Only One," and singing some of it a cappella, the rapper used his computer to preview an untitled duet with Barbadian singer Rihanna. The track reportedly featured acoustic guitar, a "soaring chorus" and a powerful hook.
"Only One" is the debut single from West's forthcoming solo album. A low quality version of another track by the rapper was leaked in August of last year.
West is expected to
go on tour sometime in 2015.
