NASHVILLE, May 23 (UPI) -- Oklahoma native and JCP Cares ambassador Blake Shelton is urging people to help raise money for tornado victims by sharing a link on Facebook.

For every share, J.C. Penney Co. Inc. pledged to donate $1 -- up to $50,000 -- to the American Red Cross Disaster Giving Program.

Ten minutes after the musician and mentor on NBC's "The Voice" shared the J.C. Penney link on his Facebook page Thursday, $10,000 was raised for the Red Cross, his representatives said in a release.

More than 33,000 people were displaced and 24 killed in the disaster this week.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the people of my home state of Oklahoma. Please share this post within the next 24 hours and my friends at jcpenney will donate $1 to the American Red Cross for each share -- up to $50,000," Shelton wrote on Facebook.

Shelton and his wife, country music star Miranda Lambert, also raised money for the Red Cross this week by singing together on "The Voice," while a phone number scrolled at the bottom of the television screen encouraging viewers to contribute what they could.
