BURBANK, Calif., March 27 (UPI) -- Soundgarden has recorded its first new song in 15 years for the movie "Marvel's The Avengers," Marvel Music/Hollywood Records said Tuesday.

The song "Live to Rise" will be featured in the end credits to the film, as well as on "Avengers Assemble," a 14-track compilation of music from and inspired by the superhero ensemble flick.

"Avengers Assemble" will be released May 1, while the movie is to open May 4 in theaters.

"We've been hard at work on our new album, which will come out this fall," Soundgarden said in a statement. "When the opportunity arose to write an original song for 'Marvel's The Avengers' film came our way, we thought it could be a cool match. We are excited to release our new song 'Live to Rise,' which is also the only new song in the film."

Soundgarden was founded in Seattle in 1984 and has sold 21 million records worldwide. The band broke up in 1997 and reunited in 2010. Since then, they have headlined festivals, toured the world and released their first retrospective "Telephantasm," which included the previously unreleased song, "Black Rain," and their first live album, "Live on I-5."
