FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., April 1 (UPI) -- Actor Tom Cruise is to film scenes for his music-themed movie musical "Rock of Ages" next month in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., officials said.

Featuring music by Bon Jovi, Styx, Journey and Whitesnake, the big-screen adaptation of the Broadway show will co-star Alec Baldwin, Paul Giamatti, Mary J. Blige and Julianne Hough.

"We're thrilled. This is a major production," the South Florida Sun Sentinel quoted Broward County Film Commissioner Noelle Stevenson as saying.

She went on to say she hopes the production brings tourists, as well as jobs, to the area.

"Everybody wants to come see where a film has been made," Stevenson said.

Fort Lauderdale will be doubling for Venice Beach, Calif., the musical's setting, the newspaper said.
