NEW YORK, March 9 (UPI) -- Producers of "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" are again delaying the official opening for the Broadway musical, this time for about three months.

Tickets to the $65 million superhero musical have been selling briskly since it began previews in November, representatives for the show have said. However, its official opening date has been postponed numerous times while technical snafus were resolved and story issues ironed out.

Currently set to open March 15, another postponement would be the show's sixth.

Most reviews published during previews have been harsh, with critics deriding the musical's story and soundtrack.

The New York Times said Tuesday the producers, director Julie Taymor and the show's co-creators -- Bono and the Edge of U2 -- have been mulling over how to retool the script and music this week. Also on the table are how many outside consultants should be hired to work on it, who they should be and when the show should open, the Times said.

Sources close to the talks told the newspaper it was unclear whether Taymor will stay on as director. In a later report Tuesday, the Times cited sources it did not name as saying the show will be shut down for two to three weeks in late April and early May, while it is revamped.

The insiders told the newspaper a new official opening date will be set in June.

An announcement regarding the temporary closure and new opening date is expected this week, the Times said.
