Singer-songwriter Gerry Rafferty dies

The Guardian said Rafferty's daughter, Martha, was by his side when he died.

Rafferty is best known for his 1970s hits "Stuck in the Middle with You," with Stealers Wheel, and his solo releases "Baker Street" and "Get it Right Next Time." He performed with comedian and actor Billy Connolly's folk outfit the Humblebums and co-founded the soft-rock group Stealers Wheel before moving on to a successful solo career, the newspaper noted.

His last album, "Another World," was released in 2000.

The cause of Rafferty's death was not reported. He had, however, long battled an addiction to alcohol and recently spent time in the hospital with liver failure, the BBC said.

The musician's funeral is expected to be held in his native Paisley, Scotland, this month, the British broadcaster said.
