Forgotten Stones single released

LONDON, April 17 (UPI) -- A Rolling Stones song recorded in 1972 and forgotten for decades was released Saturday in a limited edition for Record Store Day in Britain.

The day, which began in 2008 in the United States, celebrates independent record stores.

The Stones recorded "Plundered My Soul" for "Exile on Main Street," the BBC reports. The song did not make the double album but was rediscovered recently when the group prepared for a reissue of "Exile."

One-thousand copies of a 7-inch single were released. Other limited vinyl editions available to the lucky few this year are from the Beatles and Pet Shop Boys.

Independent record and music stores have been dropping like flies, victims of the Internet. In Britain, 269 remain, one-third the number five years ago, while Wired magazine says 1,400 are still open in the United States.

Damon Albarn, lead singer of the British group Blur, which is also releasing a vinyl special edition, called the independent record stores "an important part of our musical culture."

"Music is a simple way for Blur to show our support and I hope people like it," he said.
