Val Kilmer says he's ready for 'Top Gun 2'

May 25 (UPI) -- Val Kilmer announced on social media that he is on board for a Top Gun sequel.

"friends said it's official - #TOPGUN2 was announced today. I'm ready Tom- still got my top gun plaque! Still got the moves! Still got it!" the actor posted alongside a photo of himself wearing a t-shirt featuring his character Iceman.

Top Gun star Tom Cruise announced that the sequel will happen Tuesday on Sydney's Sunrise.

"It's true. I'm gonna start filming it, probably, in the next year," the actor said. "It is definitely happening."

The original Top Gun was released in 1986.
