Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Warner Bros. is plotting a new film based on Batman character Nightwing with Lego Batman helmer Chris McKay being eyed to direct.

According to Deadline, McKay is in negations to take on the job as Bill Dubuque (The Accountant) pens the script.

The news comes as Lego Batman has topped the North American box office two weekends in a row.

McKay had previously worked on The Lego Movie as an animation co-director and had directed three seasons of Adult Swim's Robot Chicken.

A prominent figure in the Batman mythology, Nightwing is the superhero alter ego of Dick Grayson, better known as Robin, after he comes of age. Since making his debut in the 1980s, Nightwing has gone on to headline his own comics and has starred in a number of DC animated films and video games.

On Thursday, Warner Bros. also announced that Matt Reeves has signed on to direct The Batman starring Ben Affleck after the actor stepped down as director stating that he didn't think he could handle both jobs effectively.
