LOS ANGELES, Jan. 20 (UPI) -- Production is now underway in Atlanta on Boo! A Madea Halloween, Tyler Perry Studios announced.

The big-screen comedy is to be distributed by Lionsgate Oct. 21. Perry wrote, and is producing, directing and starring in the project. Also producing are Ozzie Areu and Will Areu.

The ensemble will feature Bella Thorne, Cassi Davis, Patrice Lovely, Andre Hall, Yousef Erakat, Lexy Panterra, Diamond White, Liza Koshy, Brock O'Hurn, Jimmy Tatro, J.C. Caylen, Kian Lawley and Mike Tornabene.

The idea for the film dates back to when Perry and Chris Rock included a fictitious Madea Halloween movie in Rock's comedy Top Five. Lionsgate then approached Perry and suggested they actually make the movie.

"We are thrilled to reunite with the iconic Tyler Perry, one of the greatest creative forces in entertainment and a beloved and cherished member of our Lionsgate family," Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Co-Chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger said in a joint statement Tuesday. "Boo! A Madea Halloween brings together two great Lionsgate traditions -- Madea and a Halloween movie -- and we know that audiences will find the combination outrageous, hilarious and unbeatable."
