'Avengers: Age of Ultron' rakes in a whopping $27.6M from Thursday opening

LOS ANGELES, May 1 (UPI) -- Box Office reports that the highly anticipated Avengers: Age of Ultron accumulated an estimated $27.6 million from its Thursday night showings.

The Marvel film brings back actors Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Evans (Captain America) and Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) as they join forces once more to defeat a new enemy, Ultron. Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle and Paul Bettany also star in the tentpole.

As of midday May 1, the film raked in a total of $314.9 million globally and is expected to continue to rise.

On April 17, Avengers: Age of Ultron premiered in Seoul, South Korea. Ruffalo, Evans and Downy made it to the event alongside Korean actress Claudia Kim and director Joss Whedon. There, it reached $37.2M according to Box Office, as well as $35.9 million in the U.K.

Avengers broke records in Mexico Thursday as well, making $6.8 million, the largest opening day total in the country's box office history.
