'Exodus: Gods and Kings' tops the North American box office

The film was directed by Ridley Scott and co-stars Christian Bale and Joel Edgerton.

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Christian Bale's Bible-based action picture Exodus: Gods and Kings is the No. 1 movie in North America, earning $24.5 million this weekend, Rentrak announced Sunday.

Coming in at No. 2 is Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1 with $13.2 million, followed by Penguins of Madagascar at No. 3 with $7.3 million, Top Five at No. 4 with $7.2 million and Big Hero 6 at No. 5 with $6.1 million.

Rounding out the top tier are Interstellar at No. 6 with $5.5 million, Horrible Bosses 2 at No. 7 with $4.6 million, Dumb and Dumber To at No. 8 with $2.8 million, Theory of Everything at No. 9 with $2.5 million and Wild at No. 10 with $1.6 million.
