LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Warner Bros. is reportedly working on a remake of its post-apocalyptic thriller I Am Legend and plans to turn the film into a franchise.

According to Deadline, the new film will not be starring Will Smith as the actor has allegedly been "reluctant" to star in a sequel for the 2007 drama.

Warned Bros. is said to be "retrofitting" a script for A Garden At The End Of The World for the film. The company purchased the script from Gary Graham in April. The screenplay has been described as a "sci-fi version of John Wayne's 'The Searchers.'" After having Graham tweak the scrip, the team decided the plot had enough similarities with the I Am Legend plot and decided to redact the screenplay to fit the part.

I Am Legend producers Akiva Goldsman, James Lassiter and Joby Harold are reportedly on board to produce the reboot.

The original I Am Legend was directed by Fracis Lawrence and follows Smith's character, a former army doctor, as the sole survivor of a plague that killed most of humanity and transformed the rest into monsters.
