LOS ANGELES, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Kate Beckinsale stars as a United States foreign correspondent living in Italy in a newly released clip from Face of Angel.

Directed by Michael Winterbottom, the fictional story is loosely based on the case of Amanda Knox -- a U.S. student accused of killing her roommate while living abroad in Italy -- follows a journalist (Bekinsale) and a filmmaker (Daniel Brühl) as they try to uncover the mystery.

The movie was inspired by Barbie Latza Nadeau's book, also titled The Face of Angel, where she recounts a fictionalized version of events that took place before and during Knox's murder trial. The film will make its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival this month.

Cara Delevingne, Rosie Fellner, John Hopkins and Genevieve Gaunt co-star in the film.

Knox, now 27, and her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were convicted of killing british student Meredith Kercher in Perugia, Italy in 2007. The pair spent four years in prison before a superior court overturned the ruling and set them free in 2011. Italy's Supreme Court overturned the second ruling in 2013. Knox and Sollecito have vowed to appeal the case again. A third person, Rudy Guede, was also convicted for Kercher's murder and is currently serving his time.
