LONDON, July 4 (UPI) -- Jimi: All Is By My Side released its first official trailer Thursday.
Outkast singer Andre "Andre 3000" Benjamin stars as the late rock and roll great in the new biopic. The trailer focuses on Hendrix's rise to fame in 1960s London, with Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The First Avenger) as the musician's muse and girlfriend Kathy Etchingham.
Hendrix became the world's highest-paid performer during his intense but brief period of fame. Born in Seattle, Wash., in 1942, he moved to London after being discovered by Chas Chandler of The Animals in 1966. Four years later, he died at the height of his career of barbiturate-related asphyxia at age 27.
Jimi: All Is By My Side was written and directed by 12 Years a Slave writer John Ridley. The movie opens in theaters September 26.
