'Hobbit' still stands tall at the box office

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 29 (UPI) -- "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," starring Martin Freeman and Ian McKellen, led the box office for the third straight weekend with $29.85 million.

The animated "Frozen (2013)," with the voice of Kristen Bell, was second with $28.845 million.

All studio estimates of gross North American receipts are via Box Office Mojo.

"Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues" was third with $20.15 million; "American Hustle" fourth with $19.55 million; "The Wolf of Wall Street" fifth with $18.51 million; "Saving Mr. Banks" sixth with $14.021 million; "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" seventh with $13 million; "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" eighth with $10.2 million; "47 Ronin" ninth with $9.869 million.

"Tyler Perry's A Madea Christmas" was 10th with $7.4 million.
