LOS ANGELES, July 21 (UPI) -- The horror film "The Conjuring," starring Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson, creeped its way to the top of the weekend box office with $41.53 million in receipts.
The animated "Despicable Me 2" was still going strong in second place with $25.059 million.

All studio estimates of gross North American receipts are via Box Office Mojo.
"Turbo" was third with $21.5 million; "Grown Ups 2" fourth with $20 million; "Red 2" fifth with $18.5 million; "Pacific Rim" sixth with $15.955 million; "R.I.P.D." seventh with $12.763 million; "The Heat" eighth with $9.325 million; "World War Z" ninth with $5.2 million.
And the animated "Monsters University" was 10th with $5.005 million.
