Judge: Paramount has rights to 'La Dolce Vita'

LOS ANGELES, June 15 (UPI) -- A U.S. judge in Los Angeles ruled Paramount owns the rights to Italian director Federico Fellini's "La Dolce Vita," not International Media Films.

Paramount sued IMF in 2011 after IMF released a 50th anniversary edition of the film on DVD in November 2011.

Paramount said it had rights to the film through a chain of rights ownership, The Hollywood Reporter said Thursday. U.S. District Judge S. James Otero agreed.

"Partial summary judgment is granted in favor of Plaintiffs with respect to their first claim for relief because as a matter of undisputed fact and law, Defendant does not own, and at no time has owned, the United States copyright in the film," the California judge wrote in the ruling.

The judge has not yet assessed damages to be awarded to Paramount, The Hollywood Reporter said.
