ANAHEIM, Calif., May 9 (UPI) -- Johnny Depp fans gathered by the thousands hours ahead of the weekend premiere of his latest pirate movie at Disneyland in California.

The Orange County Register reported people were lined up four and five deep the entire length of Main Street U.S.A. -- some arriving before midnight Friday -- just for the chance to lay eyes on the actor as he showed up for the Saturday evening showing of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides."

Among the early arrivals were Candra McShea and her 18-year-old daughter, Shea McWhirter, who drove all the way from Tucson and were in line by about 11 p.m. Friday. The booty they came away with included Depp's autograph and photo.

"It was worth it," McShea said.

Celebrities started arriving about 5 p.m. Saturday and the gawkers actually got more face time with the many Depp lookalikes who strutted down the red carpet. The real Depp finally showed up shortly before 8 p.m. flanked by three handlers.

The 3-D movie opens May 20.
