NEW YORK, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Alec Baldwin's publicist said the actor's brief hospitalization in New York early Thursday was the result of a "misunderstanding."

Baldwin, 51, is the star of TV's "30 Rock." He also is scheduled to serve as co-host of the Academy Awards show in Los Angeles next month.

The New York Post said the actor was transported to Manhattan's Lenox Hill hospital from his apartment shortly after midnight, following a 911 call placed by his 14-year-old daughter, Ireland.

Although the call was categorized as a "possible alcohol or drug overdose," sources told the Post Baldwin's illness may have involved sleeping pills, but not alcohol.

Baldwin reportedly was treated at the hospital and released less than an hour later.

The actor's representative, Matthew Hiltzik, told E! News Thursday the hospitalization was "a misunderstanding on one person's part."

"Alec was quickly released from the hospital, he's completely fine and will be at work today," Hiltzik added.
