Swift, Jackson up for AMAs

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson and Eminem led the field when nominations for the 37th annual American Music Awards were announced Tuesday.

Recording artists Paula Abdul, Adam Lambert and Snoop Dogg revealed the nominees at California's Beverly Hills Hotel.

Artists were mentioned for prizes in the categories of Pop/Rock, Country, Rap/Hip-Hop, Soul/R&B, Alternative, Adult Contemporary, Latin and Contemporary Inspirational.

Swift leads the nominations race this year with six nods, while Jackson follows with five, Eminem with four and Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Kings of Leon and T.I. each earned three nominations.

Lady Gaga, Eminem, Kings of Leon, Jackson and Swift were all also nominated for 2009 Artist of the Year.

Winners of the prizes are to be determined by online voting at ama.abc.com, amavote.com and mycokerewards.com, organizers said.

Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas, Jennifer Lopez and Lambert were also confirmed to perform at the Nov. 22 event at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. It will be televised live on ABC.

"With the support of the artists and labels, we are looking forward to an amazing line-up of performances during this year's show highlighting the diversity and breadth of this year's eclectic music scene," Orly Adelson, executive producer of the show, and Larry Klein, AMA producer, said in a joint statement.
