March 23 (UPI) -- Swedish royals Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sophia are expecting their second child. The 37-year-old Duke of Varmland announced in a statement Thursday that the 32-year-old duchess is pregnant with a baby due in the fall.
"We are happy to announce that we are expecting a child, a sibling to Prince Alexander. We are looking forward to welcoming a new little member to our family," the couple said.
The Swedish Royal Court added on its official Instagram page that "the birth is expected to take place in September 2017." The prince and princess won't make changes to their spring and summer schedules.
Prince Carl and Princess Sophia married in June 2015 after five years of dating, and welcomed Prince Alexander in April. The new mom couldn't help but gush about her son in an interview with Svenskdam in July.
"It's amazing," she said of parenthood. "He is very sweet and well-behaved."
"Being a mother is amazing," the princess added. "It changes your whole life."
Prince Carl is the only son of King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia. He follows elder sister Princess Victoria and her children, Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar, in the line of succession, making Prince Alexander fifth in line to the throne.
