Ice Cube teaming up with 'Hamilton' director for 'Oliver Twist' musical

NEW YORK, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Ice Cube is teaming up with Hamilton director Thomas Kail and Disney for a modern Oliver Twist musical with Cube set to play Fagin.

Marc Platt and Jeff Kwatinetz will produce the project, with Cube and Kwatinetz writing the treatment.

The adaptation, which tells the story of young orphan Oliver who joins a gang of thieves led by Fagin, will be set in the present-day United States and feature music from a variety of genres.

The story has seen several incarnations, including as 1988's Disney animated feature Oliver & Company.

Ice Cube stars next in the comedy Fist Fight, which will premiere on Feb. 17.
