NEW YORK, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Film stars Jared Leto and Mark Ruffalo shared photos on Twitter of themselves wearing face masks, so they could covertly mingle with the thousands of costumed attendees at New York Comic Con over the weekend.

Leto will soon be seen playing the Joker in Suicide Squad, and Ruffalo plays the Hulk in the Avengers franchise.

"He had no idea," Leto captioned a photo of himself disguised as baboon and standing with a fan dressed as -- what else? -- the Joker.

"Got to hide out and enjoy #comiccon2015," Ruffalo wrote in a message accompanying a selfie in which he is unrecognizable wearing a mask with a huge mustache and cigar.

While many celebrities take part in Comic Con panel discussions, media interviews and scheduled autograph-signing sessions, it is rare to see them out on the packed showroom floor where their fans are gathered.
