'Simpsons'-themed Springfield section opens at Universal Studios Hollywood

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., May 17 (UPI) -- The Springfield district featuring characters from and attractions related to The Simpsons has officially opened at Universal Studios Hollywood, the theme park announced.

Visitors on their way to The Simpsons Ride will recognize Moe's Tavern, Springfield Elementary School, Android's Dungeon Comic Book Store, the cooling towers of Mr. Burns' Nuclear Power Plant, Springfield Police Station, Aztec Theater, Kwik-E-Mart and other iconic landmarks from the popular animated television series.

"The Simpsons is an enduring franchise that has withstood the test of time, contributing to why The Simpsons Ride has been an all-time favorite since it opened at our theme park," Larry Kurzweil, president of Universal Studios Hollywood, said in a statement. "As Universal Studios Hollywood celebrates its 50-year milestone celebration, the introduction of Springfield underscores the extensive transformation underway to engage guests in dynamic and relevant, immersive entertainment."
