'Selfies are bad': Prince Harry rejects fan's plea

By Marilyn Malara

CANBERRA, Australia, April 7 (UPI) -- All the royals have surely been victims of the selfie epidemic, but Prince Harry has had enough. He was recorded this week rejecting a young fan's request to join him in a self-portrait during his first day in Australia saying, "No, I hate selfies."

The prince, dressed in his military whites, was greeted by a group of well-wishers upon his arrival to Australia. In a video clip posted by NBC News, the teenage admirer leans out of the crowd of camera phones and fans to frame her quick selfie with the dashing prince only to be shot down.

"I know you're young, but selfies are bad," Harry said. The party-loving royal may be turning over a new, more expressive leaf, since just recently as last May he was posing for selfies with fans in Estonia. According to Forces.tv, Harry will spend four weeks in Australia to train with the Australian Army's Special Forces. This marks his final military deployment before completing his service in June.

Maybe selfies just aren't Harry's cup of tea, but his memorable encounter with the young girl was recorded, posted, and made viral -- more than a selfie can do. (That is, unless you're Ellen DeGeneres.)
