CHICAGO, April 1 (UPI) -- The two top music festivals in the United States, Coachella and Lollapalooza, are telling their visitors to leave their selfie sticks and narcissism at home.

Both events, which take place in California and Chicago, have updated their policies to ban the sticks.

Coachella has stated that all "selfie sticks/narcissistics" have been prohibited and Lollapalooza only allows cameras "without equipment attachments such as selfie sticks, tripods and monopods."

Several institutions have banned selfie sticks. The Smithsonian in Washington D.C. banned them from all of its museums. Music venues across the world have told concert goers to leave the selfie sticks.

"Selfies are a big part of the gig experience," said a spokesman for Wembley Arena. "The sticks might mean you are refused entry to the venue so our advice is don't bring them and stick with the tried and tested use of an arm."
