NEW YORK, March 6 (UPI) -- Television personality and former psychologist Dr. Phil McGraw led an intervention at a Georgia hotel Thursday to get Bobbi Kristina Brown's troubled boyfriend Nick Gordon to seek treatment for his binge-drinking, prescription drug abuse and suicidal thoughts.

"Hopefully, he's in rehab right now. He got in car from the hotel with his mom," a source told the New York Daily News.

"Things got really bad with him," the insider said. "This was about saving his life."

The intervention by McGraw and Gordon's mother Michelle came after Gordon expressed on Twitter Tuesday he is struggling with suicidal thoughts, but trying to stay strong as Brown remains comatose on life support and her father, singer Bobby Brown, won't let him see her.

"As we sit here right now, my son's life hangs in the balance," the News quoted Michelle as saying in an excerpt of a Dr. Phil episode about the intervention set to air March 11.

Brown, who turned 22 Wednesday, has been hospitalized on life support since Jan. 31. She was discovered face down and unresponsive in a bathtub at the Georgia home she shared with Gordon.
