The film gained notoriety after several theaters and eventually Sony decided to cancel screenings due to a terrorist threat from the hackers responsible for massive leak from Sony servers. North Korea is suspected to be the culprit behind the attack after the government expressed its outrage at the film's comedic depiction of the assassination of its leader Kim Jong-un.
