LOS ANGELES, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- James Franco and Jonah Hill star in a first trailer for True Story.

The 36-year-old actor portrays Christian Longo, a real-life man convicted of murdering his wife and three children who assumed the identity of journalist Michael Finkel (Jonah Hill). Longo hid under Finkel's name to evade capture, and later told the writer the "true story" of his crime.

True Story is directed by noted English theater director Rupert Goold and produced by Brad Pitt. Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything) co-stars as Finkel's wife, with Maria Dizzia as Longo's wife Mary Jane. The film opens in theaters April 10, 2015.

Franco was scheduled to appear in controversial film The Interview, and is attached to direct and star in Black Dog, Red Dog with Olivia Wilde and Chloe Sevigny. Hill last appeared with Channing Tatum in 22 Jump Street, and will star in new Coen Brothers comedy Hail, Caesar!.
