NEW YORK, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Grammy-winning artist Erykah Badu decided to have some fun and hit the streets of Manhattan to sing for her supper and walked away with only $3.60.

She sang for 30 minutes on the evening of Oct.10 on the corner of 42nd Street and 6th Avenue. Badu filmed the experience on her iPhone.

"I just always kind of wanted to see what it would be like to sing for money on the streets. So I'm gonna find a good place to stop and do it," she said.

She clarified that the stunt was more of a prank than a social experiment.

"In no way is this video a reflection of my feelings about homeless or unfortunate families nor individuals who have no other means of survival in our world. Instead, this short film was shot with my iPhone and edited in iMovie for entertainment purposes only and serves as a personal 'hustle' experiment for me."
