Robert Downey Jr.'s son Indio charged with felony drug possession

Indio Downey was arrested for cocaine possession in late June after police officials noticed him smoking from a pipe in the back seat of a car in West Hollywood.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Robert Downey Jr.'s son Indio Downey has been charged with felony possession of a controlled substance following his June arrest in West Hollywood.

TMZ reports that Downey, who was also charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, will only have to complete a drug diversion program because it was his first offense.

Downey, 20, was arrested for cocaine possession in late June, after police officials noticed him smoking from a pipe in the back seat of a car in West Hollywood. He was released on $10,000 bail hours after the incident.

Downey's father, who famously dealt with drug abuse issues in the late 1990s and early 2000s, released a statement after the arrest stating his son "likely inherited" addiction from him. The Iron Man star reportedly called the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. after the charges were issued to thank them for "their intervention."
