LOS ANGELES, July 1 (UPI) -- A spokesperson for Shia LaBeouf has shed light on Monday's reports that the 28-year-old actor had entered rehab.
The rep said that LaBeouf, who was spotted in Los Angeles with an Alcoholics Anonymous book, had not actually entered a rehab facility.
"But he is voluntarily receiving treatment for alcohol addiction," the rep said. "He understands that these recent actions are a symptom of a larger health problem and he has taken the first of many necessary steps towards recovery."
X17 reported Monday that the former Transformers star had checked into a rehab facility following his alleged outburst during a performance of Cabaret in New York City on Thursday.
LaBeouf was escorted out of the theater and booked on disorderly conduct and trespassing charges.
